THE WASTE & RECYCLING ADVENTURE CENTER is a two-story, 7,000 sq. ft. hands-on educational experience located in Baldwin County, Alabama. Comprised of 20 stations on 2 floors with a second level overlook of the MRF in operation, tours can be scheduled for a wide range of ages, school groups and interests.
With a growing interest in recycling in Alabama, this facility is positioned to lead the way for both recycling education and as a resource for recycled materials. The concept of a circular economy is spurring great interest in capturing recycled products, diverting them from the landfill and directing them into the manufacturing stream.
The Baldwin County Waste and Recycling Adventure Center plays a vital role in educating the public and students about waste management and the many facets of recycling. Being able to watch the Green Machine, the heart of the MRF, in action provides a real-time experience of how the recycling process works. Here students can watch as materials arrive on the tipping floor as single-stream recyclables to be moved along conveyors and sorted by hand, passing through separator screens, optical sorters, metal sorters (magnetic and eddy currents) and then dropped into bunkers to be baled for transport to manufacturers who further process the material into new products.
