Life is made up of the permanent and the ephemeral. The permanent is here today, and here tomorrow and the ephemeral is here today, gone tomorrow. Everything changes at a different pace, with the fast moving more noticeably and the slow moving more imperceptibly. A stationary object or graphic can arrest a person, place or event in time and give us the opportunity to see them in a suspended state of time.

To combine the monumental with the ephemeral is to embrace the notion of impermanence on a public scale, to make the visual more dynamic and allow meaning to evolve over time. Architecture may be music frozen in time, but with today’s technology, architecture can be in motion as well.
