Humans have walked the earth for approximately 200,000 years. This is a nanosecond when considering Earth’s 4.5 billion year history. Throughout this time an immense amount of changes have occurred – an oxygen friendly atmosphere developed, oceans formed, giant land masses separated and collided, and incredible creatures roamed the planet before vanishing forever.

A STORY OF LIFE ON EARTH: FOSSILS TELL THE TALE presents the museum’s fossil collection in the context of the 4.5 billion year history of the earth. The color coded 45 linear feet of casework presents each fossil with a descriptive label and illustration aligned to its eon, era, period and epoch. An abbreviated timeline of earth’s milestone events runs along the lower portion of the case.
