WOODROW WILSON REVISITED
While many consider Woodrow Wilson one of our great presidents, noted for his legislative agenda and international achievements, the focus shifted as crucial parts of his policies became better know.Among his serious failings was his racism and the damage it did to individual lives at home and abroad.This widely neglected issue was raised in the fall of 2015 when the Black Justice League started much needed dialogue at Princeton and beyond.
This exhibit, which draws on modern scholarship and newly digitized resources in the archives, was mounted as part of this ongoing dialogue. Wilson was a complex man and the exhibition informed and surprised many. It accompanied a series of conferences at Princeton that further examined the legacy of Woodrow Wilson from many perspectives, including contemporaneous criticism during his life time as well as modern scholarship.
The exhibition follows key themes that were organized chronologically from his birth to his rise in power to president of the United States, allowing the visitor to see how Wilson, although seen as a product of his time, would later be held accountable for his actions.
