AFTER 9/11

The events of September 11, 2001, shook the world. The attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania were the worst acts of terrorism ever to occur on American soil. They changed the way Americans saw themselves and the way the world saw America. In the days and weeks after the attacks of 9/11, letters, poems, paintings, drawings, quilts, photos and other gifts inundated New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. People from around the world brought or sent messages of condolence to United States embassies and consulates in hundreds of cities.

The sampling shown in this travel exhibit offers a glimpse into the international outpouring that these events evoked. In the years following the 9/11 attacks, this exhibition, designed, produced and managed by Whirlwind Creative traveled to three Presidential Libraries and other sites to showcase across the country.
